Looking ahead, WAVE is eager to expand this proven agricultural model beyond Kenya. Plans are already in place to purchase land in Zanzibar and replicate the successes of Naivasha and the Maasai Mara.
In Naivasha, WAVE has made significant strides in agricultural development, focusing on large-scale farming to support food security and sustainability. After refining our approach, we have now completed two successful onion harvests, with the most recent yielding 4.6 tonnes. Of this, one tonne was directed to Children’s Garden Home to support the children’s nutritional needs, while 3.6 tonnes were sold directly to the market, demonstrating both social impact and income-generating potential. These results confirm that WAVE has perfected a replicable model of agricultural productivity that benefits both children under our care and the wider community.
Going Beyond
In the Maasai Mara, WAVE has introduced a groundbreaking agricultural program that now provides the school with a reliable, seven-day supply of fresh vegetables. This initiative has transformed meal planning and nutrition for the children by ensuring a steady flow of produce throughout the week—something that had never been achieved before in the region. Building on this success, plans are underway to introduce dairy farming by acquiring cows, which will provide fresh milk as a nutritious complement to the vegetable program and further enhance food sustainability for the school.
